ACT Floorball

Floorball…
Innebandy…
Salibandy…
Ice hockey without the ice…
Indoor hockey with an ice hockey stick…

Whatever you wish to call it, this game is fun, fast and suitable for all ages and ability levels.

Floorball is played indoors and year-round on a court surrounded by a knee-high rink. The ball is very light, sticks are curved for both left- and right-handed players and no additional equipment is required. For the full competition version of the game, a team plays with five players plus a goalkeeper on the court at a time. For more information about what Floorball is and how it is played, click here.

Every week in Canberra, there are social competition nights for both men’s and mixed teams. Canberra’s social competitions areis played with four players from each team on the court at any time (with at least one female on the court in the mixed games) and no goalkeeper. There are sticks that may be borrowed for each game at the venue. If you would like to know more about where to play, click here.

There are also training sessions that are open to all players, from those who would like to pick up some more skills to those who are interested in travelling with the ACT men’s and women’s teams for competitions. Times for upcoming training sessions are in the column to the left.

ACT Floorball Association

The ACTFA is the organising committee for Floorball within Canberra. It consists of a group of dedicated players with a vision to growing the awareness, player base, and ability level of Floorball in the ACT.

The ACTFA organises men’s and women’s teams to participate in the Northern Beaches Open and the Australian Floorball Open annually at the club level, as well as training sessions locally.

Please feel free to browse our site, contact us with any questions or queries, and come down for a run. It's the aim of the ACTFA to bring as many people as we can onto the court, as we want to share our fun and fabulous sport with everyone (if only so we don’t have so many blank stares when we say “I play Floorball”).

Current News

With AFO wrapped up for another year, the ACT teams can be very proud.

The ACT men’s team, the Chargers, played doggedly, proving they could match it with some of the top teams in the competition, finishing a very respectable 9th out of 13 teams. Having won their final placing game against Wellington in a penalty shoot out, thanks to some unbelievable saves by the goalkeeper, the team will only come back stronger next year.

The ACT women’s team, the Chargettes, combined with the girls from Sale, were determined to have some fun and get experience against the best Australia has to offer. Having never played together, the girls instantly formed well as a team, producing some amazing results, sticking it to some long-established teams. Well done, ladies.

Upcoming Events

The Northern Beaches Open has been postponed till January/Febuary 2012. However the inaugural Canberra Floorball Open will be held on the 8th and 9th of October in the ACT for more infomation please click here.
